Here’s how to route your trades through the Investors Exchange (IEX) with TD Ameritrade:
After logging in, hover over Client Services and select General immediately beneath My Profile:
Client Services > My Profile: General
There, enable Direct routing. It will look like this after enabling it:
Direct routing enabled
Once enabled, expand Additional details for your trade ticket and select IEX from the Routing drop-down menu:
Additional details > Routing: IEX

EDIT 1:
It is actually possible to set IEX as the default for trade routing. To do so:
Return to General and under Stock order entry click Edit for the Routing setting:
Stock order entry > Routing
Then select IEX from the drop-down menu for Routing:
Routing: IEX
Again, bear in mind that IEX routing is only for regular market orders, so if you ever do want to perform a PM or AH trade, simply route that trade differently under Additional details.
